Bellingen High School Grounds Upgrade

The Brief

Worn outdoor areas needing repair

Bellingen High School required improvements to several high-use outdoor areas that had deteriorated over time. The grounds included a poorly drained pedestrian area that regularly collected water, a brick retaining wall damaged by tree root movement, landscaped gardens requiring rejuvenation, and sections of the school oval that had become worn and bare.

The Scope

Drainage, paving, wall and turf

The project involved excavating and removing the existing gravel from a poorly drained pedestrian area before preparing the subgrade, installing and compacting crusher dust, and creating the required falls to direct surface water towards existing drainage points. New paving was then installed to provide a durable, well-drained walking surface, with new timber sleeper edging installed and stained to complement the surrounding landscaped areas. A brick retaining wall damaged by tree root movement was reconstructed to restore its structural integrity and appearance. Additional works included supplying and installing native mulch throughout several garden beds to improve the presentation of the landscaped areas, together with aerating, preparing and reseeding worn sections of the school oval and volleyball court to reinstate healthy turf growth.

By carefully sequencing the civil, landscaping and masonry works, we ensured each area was completed efficiently with minimal disruption to school operations. Every aspect of the project was completed with durability, presentation and functionality as the primary objectives.

The completed works significantly improved the functionality and appearance of several key outdoor areas throughout Bellingen High School. The upgraded paving now provides effective drainage and a safer pedestrian surface, the reconstructed retaining wall restores both structural stability and visual appeal, the refreshed garden beds enhance the school's presentation, and the regenerated turf has returned important recreational areas to a healthy, usable condition. The result is a more attractive, functional and durable environment for students, staff and visitors.
